fake college classesby jared moseleyOver 3,000 students have received credits for fake classes in a North Carolina university. The "irregular classes" were not supervised or participated in by any staff or students. Half of the students enrolled in the classes were athletes that needed the credits so they could continue to play sports. The other half were students struggling academic-wise, and were told to take the classes by academic support services.
Something like this on a scale this large is obviously going to cause major problems for the university in question. In a press statement by Chancellor Carol Folt, she said "The bad actions of a few and the inaction of others failed the University's students, faculty and alumni, and undermined the institution as a whole." the jihadist groupThe jihadist group, ISIS, for the past two months has been attempting to wipeout the last remaining Yazidis community of Iraq. Unable to complete this act of treachery, which they see fit, the remaining 10,000 or so Isis members have been going city to city executing any non-Muslim residency.
Recently the radical group has gone quiet, leaving U.S. intelligence officials believing there are tons of Isis terrorist cells throughout all of Europe. This was first brought to the attention of the U.S. when the execution of American photojournalist, James Foley, was broadcasted all over the internet. The executioner spoke with a British accent, leaving officials to believe Isis is far more diverse then thought of before. CNN reporter states “ISIS has also proven that it’s practical and can adapt to changing battlefield conditions.” One thing Isis has been able to do that Al-Qaeda and other radical groups haven’t been able to do, is hold conquered land. Cities under waIsis rule at the time still have running water and electricity. September 11, 2014 the original number of ISIS militants has now tripled from 10,000 to and estimated to 20,000 to 31,500 members. Even though the ISIS tragedy is occurring continents away, we still feel in our hearts for the innocent caught in this religious war. |
lmti pinwheelsby ian nevinEvery year LMTI goes out into the community to raise awareness for underage drinking. This year they've taken it to the next level and focused on drunk driving.
Out of all alcohol distributed all year, 11% of it is drank by people under the age of 21. In 2010, America spent around 120 billion dollars, 13.2 billion dollars in alcohol was spent by people under the age of 21 that year. LMTI is putting 430 pinwheels in the ground around Pennsville Memorial High School the week before homecoming to raise awareness for the 4,300 miners who die each year from drunk driving. Each pinwheel represents ten people who died. " I think it's a good idea, it shows that drunk driving is a horrible thing to do, I think it will bring up awareness to all students and those who pass by it." -Daniel Johnson The pinwheels will be put up the week of October 6th through October 10th.
