kyle korverAtlanta Hawks' Kyle Korver named to All-Star team after Dwyane Wade drops out. Kyle Korver could become the first player ever in NBA history to make more than 50 percent of his field goals and 3-point attempts, and better than 90 percent of his free throws. He is averaging 12.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. This will be the first time in the Hawks history for four players from their team to be selected to the all star team, the eighth time in NBA history that four players from one team selected to the all star game in the same season. Dwyane Wade chose to opt out of the all star game due to a hamstring injury. "I felt like this was best," Wade said, according to the Associated Press. "I wasn't going to play much either way. I think with the circumstances, I think the smartest thing to do is let someone else come in and really enjoy the All-Star experience."

Obama on isisPresident Barack Obama has issued a document to Congress on Wednesday February 11, 2015 to try and authorize military force against the Islamic State well known as ISIS and/or ISIL. His reasoning for this decision is to prevent an attack on US soil due to the recent political gain of the Islamic State. Islamic State extremists have been and are imposing violent rule across Iraq and Syria. They have brazenly killed U.S. and allied hostages in brutal online propaganda and media videos. Obama's proposal launches an ideological debate over what authorities and limitations the commander in chief should have in pursuit of the extremists. He is offering to limit authorization to three years, extending all authority the next president. This is because before he took office he promised the nation to take all boots off the ground and to never put them back in during his time of office. This decision is so the next person in office can make changes if needed. This topic will be discussed this afternoon between congress and the senate. The final decision of whether initiating in combat with be released sometime this week.

Bobbi Kristina brown
Alyssa palverento
Bobbi Kristina -- the 21 year-old daughter of Bobby Brown and the late music legend Whitney Houston -- was discovered face down in the bathtub on January 31st. She was then rushed to a hospital in Rosewell, Georgia where she was put on a ventilator and placed into a medically induced coma. Houston's death was ruled an accidental drowning. But many questions remain about what happened to Brown.
It has been a difficult time for the family, with emotions swirling and media scrutiny, and the tension culminated in a bloody brawl last Thursday night, which caused the stitches on Shayne's forehead. However, the mother and son say the family remains strong.
Reporters are still unsure the extent of her injuries. They also don't know what prompted the doctors to induce her into a coma. or what those reported seizures and eye opening mean.

Parrot Stolen from zoo
Caleb walker
At the Cape May County Zoo, Brutus, an African Grey parrot, was stolen from his cage, on Sunday, November 9th, 2014.
Brutus disappeared from his cage on Sunday between his morning feeding and 2:15 pm, when it was time for his lunch feeding. Brutus was kept in a large cage that was latched, but not locked. Zookeeper Peter Cyr says that the locks were not needed, because the parrots would try to bite and attack anyone who was close to the cage. Zoo Officials are sure that Brutus did not escape on his own, because the cage was latched.
On Monday evening, authorities of Middle Township found Brutus walking on Dennisville Road. They returned Brutus safely to the zoo, and Zookeepers made sure his caged was locked.

Animal rights
Shawna hopkins
New Jersey animal rights activists and hunters say they'd like to see changes made to the states bear population plan after a 300 pound black bear fatally mauled a 22 year old man who had gone hiking with friends.
Neither activists nor hunters know what set off the bear, but the management plan might reduce the chance of more deadly attacks.
Wildlife officials can choose to keep the plan, modify it, or eliminate the hunt completely.
Susan Russell of the Wildlife Policy Director says, "New Jersey must join other bear regions and get serious about restricting black bear access to human foods, primarily trash, bear/deer bait and foods brought to campgrounds".
They claim the annual hunt has prevented bear populations from exploding.
Anthony Mauro, the head of the NJ Outdoor Alliance, also claims, “So by managing the population, you minimize that event and help to ensure public safety and the safety of the bears, you want to not only protect people, but bears have a right to be here as much as we have a right to be here. You don’t want a bear attack to turn public sentiment to, ‘Kill all the bears.’"

Net neutrality
Jared moseley
President Obama has called upon the FCC to make tighter restrictions on internet service providers to support a "free and open internet". He urged them to strictly enforce the principal that all internet traffic is treated the same way, regardless of where it's going or where it's from. This principal is called "Net Neutrality", and companies that provide broadband internet, such as Comcast, are attempting to get rid of it.
After the President Obama announced his stance and urged the FCC to not abolish Net Neutrality, (unsurprisingly) stocks from broadband providers fell, and are only now slowly recovering.
Does this mean things are finally looking up for proponents of Net Neutrality, or is this just reaching the top of the hill, before quickly rolling down? Only time will tell.

Target advocates the idea to open doors for Black Friday shopping on Thanksgiving by doing it themselves again this year. However, the difference is that they'll be doing it 2 hours earlier this year after opening at 8 p.m last year.
Black Friday is on the rise to Becoming Black Thursday/Friday and eradicating Thanksgiving as the main focused holiday of November. There's a number of other stores aiding to this advancement in retail stores hours for Thanksgiving/Black Friday.
At this point there's multiple groups and organizations trying to boycott the stores that open their doors on Thanksgiving. Target happens to be the largest advocate and most outspoken company about opening on Thanksgiving, the reason for this being the companies hardship in the past year with credit card scandals and such.

Germantown abduction
giovanni dominic
On November 5th a rare occasion occurred in the district of Germantown, Philadelphia. As 22 year old Carlesha Freeland-Gaither walked from the bus stop, she was abducted and taken .
37 year old, Delvin Barnes, managed to drag the young girl off the streets and into his suspected car. As Carlesha was being taken she managed to fight her attacker to the point of kicking out both back windows.
Hope was answered for the praying parents as three days later the two were found in Jessup, Maryland.
Sadly this isn't the Barnes first abduction. Early October Barnes was digging a grave for a 16 year old Richmond girl, when she escaped. Barnes is now being prosecuted for both attempted murder and abduction.
The trial will take place in Pennsylvania as he will be appointed a Pennsylvania lawyer.

Carbon monoxide leak
johnna heller
On Sunday night in the 1200 block of South 8th Street in South Philadelphia, carbon monoxide filled the air in a home. Two men were sickened. The men reached out to Perry Cain, a friend of the residence and also a doctor, for medical advice.
The Philadelphia Fire Department and Philadelphia Gas Works confirmed carbon monoxide was present due to an old heater with rusted and unsafe parts.
"I got a text message from my friend saying he was dizzy and what could be the cause of it. I said many things could be the cause. Then he text me back and said his two roommates were also dizzy, had headaches, and could barely walk," Cain said.
Carbon monoxide (CO) is an odorless, colorless gas that can cause sudden illness and death if inhaled. When power outages occur during emergencies such as hurricanes or winter storms, the use of alternative sources of fuel or electricity for heating, cooling, or cooking can cause carbon monoxide to build up in a home, garage, or camper and to poison the people
and animals inside.

Texas Teen killed
Robert Saulin
A Duncanville, Texas teen, Ryan Lara, who was suffering from cancer was shot and killed on Saturday night while moving his family's car from the driveway.
He was murdered outside his front door while moving the family's Chevy Suburban into the driveway after gunfire rang out. "He was screaming that he got shot. He was like, 'I got hit! I got shot! I got shot in my back!" Lara's older brother, Richard, told ABC 8 Dallas-Ft. Worth. "He said they were trying to steal the truck . . . that's all he said."
After Ryan was hit, Richard opened fire on the supposed robbers as they sped away, emptying 10 rounds while trying to hit the vehicle. Richard was uncertain as to how many rounds may have struck the car.
Just six weeks before the fatal shooting, Ryan had been diagnosed with cancer, and was undergoing chemotherapy for lymphoma twice a week at Children's Medical Center in Dallas. Ryan was expected to survive his disease.
This is a very unfortunate occurrence for such a young kid. He had a very bright future ahead of him and hopefully this incident will raise awareness to gun violence.

Oscar Pistoriusby caleb walkerOscar Pistorius has been sentenced for 5 years at Kgosi Manpuru Correctional Facility.
He is sentenced for culpable homicide of his wife Reeva Steenkamp. The court also added three additional years for allegedly discharging a weapon inside a restaurant. There are claims from the court of how long Pistorius' sentence will be in prison for. It is expected that he is in prison for 10 months, and then be put on house arrest. The National Prosecuting Authority says that he should be imprisoned for at least a minimal of 20 months, which is one-third of the sentence. There are some claims to appeal the decision. The defense wishes not to. The judge feels it would not be appropriate for Pistorius to be imprisoned for 10 months. Reeva Steenkamp's family says that they are satisfied with the decision of Pistorious being in prison for 5 years. This trial is now coming to the end of this horrible tragedy. armed robbery
