Superbowl
Kyle Craner
Super Bowl 49 was one for the ages. The Seattle Seahawks took the field looking to win back to back Super Bowls while Tom Brady was looking for his 4th title. The game came down to the final 125 seconds. New England was down 24-21 when Tom Brady leads the patriots down the field on a perfect drive. Capping it off with a TD pass to Julian Edleman. But with 2 minutes 2 seconds left the Seahawks would have the last say. With 55 seconds left on the patriots 40, Russell Wilson throws a deep to Jermaine Kearse which is incomplete but bobbled 4 times before somehow Kearse makes the catch on his back. On the following play lynch gets down to the 1 yard line with 20 seconds left. The next play Russell Wilson throws a slant to Richardo lockette which gets intercepted by Malcolm Butler. That play arguably will go down in history as the worst play call ever. Instead of handing the ball off to Marshawn lynch the Seahawks threw a game ending interception.Carroll said that his team knew they were going to throw the ball one time in that sequence somewhere “and all of a sudden [New England] had a goal-line group of defense on there that we could take advantage of if we threw it, and so we did, and it just didn’t turn out right.” He explained that he made the call that comes out of the process of preparation and practice during the season. “It was the worst result of a call ever,” Carroll said. “The call would have been a great one if we catched it. It would have been just fine and no one would have thought twice about it.”
